Glenn Davis, Shady Oaks, 2013, Oil on canvas, 24 x 37 inches, Morris Museum of Art, Augusta, GA
Glenn Davis holds a bachelor of arts degree in fine arts from the University of Texas at Austin. He has participated in group shows, solo exhibitions, and has given lectures throughout the South. His work is included in private and corporate collections all over the United States.
Like other well-known gold artists, Davis came to this specialty indirectly. Years ago, while he was working as a successful freelance advertising artist, Davis completed some golf course-related works for his own pleasure. They resulted in a nine-year engagement at an internationally known golf club manufacturer in Phoenix.
When Davis was playing a lot of golf and introducing his son to the game, a good firend in the industry invited him to provide images for an instructional manual. When other publishers saw his work, they hired him to illustrate their books, and that lead to his working in a small publishing company in Arizona and a large one in New Jersey drawing hundreds of players in action. In the midst of these ventures Davis fell in love with courses in Arizona and on the West Coast and began painting these landscapes. He is now in his own studio, continuing to create landscapes and pencil drawings of children and golfers. This full-time endeavor requires much energy and time and has been his joy for more than thirty years.
